Following in the footsteps of her The Talk co-hosts during 'secrets week,' Sheryl Underwood revealed the pain of having lost her baby twin sister and the subsequent domestic violence that haunted her childhood.

The 49-year-old comedienne made her sad revelation on Friday as she tearfully recalled her most painful memories to the audience at the CBS talk show.

'People ask where does the "funny" comes from, for me it comes from my desire to never have anyone feel what I felt throughout my childhood and certain periods of my life,' said the normally jovial TV star in a very somber tone. 'So I try to make everybody laugh and everybody happy.'

'I was born a twin and we were both premature and both in the incubator,' she went on to say, before dropping a bombshell revelation.

'What you don't know is I carry her birth certificate around because she did not live.'

There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Sheryl showed the document from Saint Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas.

'Those are my sister's little biddy feet,' said Underwood as the yellow document appeared on the screen.

'For years, in my family, my birth mother did not want me and my father to be close to each other so she would tell me that my father killed my sister,' she struggled to say while fighting back the overwhelming emotions.

'And that he propped a bottle up for her to take and she exphixiated... So for years, I loved my father but I did not get very close to him, until one day I saw my mother stab my father.'

After the audience gasped from the bombshell revelation, Underwood went on to explain how she coped with her dysfunctional upbringing.

'A  lot of people have domestic violence in their family, a lot of people witness things, so to get through that I started to engage my sister, my twin, as my guardian angel, as that was the only way I knew I could get through it.

'The reason I am telling you ladies this is because every day we are here, we try to laugh, we really do know and love each other, and every day somebody is going through something, and every day, I wish my sister could be here,' she pledged.
