Leisha O'Donnell disappears and her husband is told she 'probably got eaten'

A mother was probably eaten by a shark or crocodile after falling from a houseboat in far north Queensland, police say.

Leisha O'Donnell had been holidaying in Missionary Bay off Hinchinbrook Island, but disappeared from a houseboat.

She was last seen by her husband at around 7pm on Saturday, July 11.

Queensland Police believe she probably fell overboard and was eaten in the waters that are 'notorious' for crocodiles and reef, tiger and bull sharks, Cairns Post reported

'It's very unlikely we'll find a body.'

Police called off the search for Ms O'Donnell on July 17, after a week of extensive land, sea and air searches brought them no closer to finding the woman.

Although it took her husband 13 hours to report her missing, Det Sgt Clark said he was devastated, and that they did not believe her disappearance was suspicious.

Ms O'Donnell is described as being 175cm tall with a thin build, blonde hair, and of Caucasian appearance.

Anyone who thinks they have seen the woman, or who may have information on her whereabouts are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
