Charo Recalls the Day Husband Kjell Rasten Committed Suicide

Cuchi-Cuchi queen Charo will never forget the day husband Kjell Rasten shot himself behind their Beverly Hills home in February 2019. During a recent appearance on The Talk, she recalled the events leading up to Kjell’s tragic suicide at age 78 and what it was like for her to discover his lifeless body.

He was “the best husband, the best father, the best companion,” Charo said, but admitted she had “no clue, no clue at all” he wanted to take his own life. “We had dinner, but he did not talk, during the dinner he talked very little,” she recalled about how their day went. “Then, when he went to go to sleep, he looked at me very strange.”

The morning of Kjell’s death, Charo said her husband made it kind of difficult for her to find him because he was in an alley near their home where the grounds crews would normally put debris and clippings.

“He did not want that I find him,” The Love Boat star cried. “I find him and I thought that he fell down.” However, that wasn’t the case. “I ran to him, because I thought he fell and I hugged him and I was full of blood. My hair was full of blood, like I had a shower of blood,” she continued.

Once Charo found discovered Kjell shot himself, she immediately went looking for help. “I was screaming to the street, full of blood and a tour bus called the police and called the ambulance,” she said while fighting back her tears.

When the cops arrived, they explained everything to Charo. At the time, she was still confused why her husband was losing a lot of blood. “He said, ‘Sit down, he did not fall down, he put a bullet in his head,”‘ she explained. “And that moment, I had a bullet in my heart.”

Shortly after the incident, Kjell was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. According to a statement that confirmed his passing, Kjell was said to be suffering from depression and was also battling a rare skin disease called bullous pemphigoid.

“His health began to decline,” the statement read, according to the Daily Mail. “That, along with the many medications he needed to take, became too much for him, and he ended his suffering.”

We’re so sorry for your loss, Charo!
